Bob Daisley chat

Bob Daisley - Lee Kerslake - Ozzy - Randy Rhoads copied from blabbermouth.net
Legendary bassist Bob Daisley (OZZY OSBOURNE, RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH, URIAH HEEP) will take part in a question-and-answer session via a live webcam chat on December 11, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. EST at the RandyRhoads.us web site.

RandyRhoads.us, the only web site endorsed by the Randy Rhoads family, no longer requires a membership fee to access. There is a video from Randy's brother, Kelle, on the homepage welcoming you to the site. Former QUIET RIOT bassist Kelly Garni is the main contributor and shares many pics and memories about Randy. There are many other features on the site as well.

In May 2004, the Supreme Court refused to consider the appeal of Daisley and drummer Lee Kerslake, who sued OZZY OSBOURNE in 1998 seeking royalties for their work on albums "Blizzard of Ozz" and "Diary of a Madman".

Los Angeles attorney Nate Kraut said his musician clients had been denied credit for writing songs that were being used in television commercials and during NFL games.

In 1982, Rhoads, the then-lead guitarist for OZZY OSBOURNE, and two others were killed at Flying Baron Estates, just outside Leesburg, Florida, when their small plane struck Osbourne's tour bus, then crashed into a mansion.

Paul Newton's Story

And here's Paul Newton says his own life Paul's Gallery here.

Well, a little bit of history of the days up to Spice:

I first started playing when I was about 14 years old. I grew up in a house where my parents always had music playing and my mother had loads of trad jazz records and then became a great Lonnie Donegan fan - she used to send me to the record shop as soon as a new Lonnie record came out! When I was at school a lot of my friends bought guitars and played rock 'n roll, Elvis, Cliff Richard, Shadows etc and we used to go and see all tth bands when they were touring in our area. My Dad bought me Watkins Rapier guitar and I joined up with a few lads and we used to go to each others houses and learn songs and play the odd little gig at youth clubs and chuch halls. I found myself playing all the bass lines and so decided to buy a bass guitar as nobody seemed to want to play bass - I changed my guitar for a Hofner Artiste bass and soon found I could play bass better than guitar and got more gigs because there were not many bass players in our area. When I left school I trained for a couple of years as a Quantity Surveyor, whilst playing three or four gigs a week. Eventually I turned professional and formed a band called "Shinn" which was a four piece band, Hammond organ, drums, singer and me on bass and guitar. The drummer was Brian 'Blinky' Davison who went on to play with Keith Emerson in "The Nice" before Emerson Lake and Palmer. This lasted about six months (our music was a little ahead of it's time I think). We had been working through an agency in London that handled a band called 'The Gods' who had just split up, as Mick Taylor, the guitarist had left to join John Mayall's Bluesbreakers so I got to know Ken Hensley and we recruited Lee Kerslake, who I knew from Bournemouth. We went through a couple of guitarists until we found a Polish guy called Joe Konas.

I stayed with them for about twelve months in London, but as we were not earning much money I left and got a job with a construction company, but decided to give music another chance. I answered an advert in 'Melody Maker' and went to audition with a band who turned out to be 'Spice' and moved back to London to join them. The line-up was David Garrick (later Byron), Mick Box, myself and a drummer called Nigel Pegrum (who went on to play with Steeleye Span and the Barron Knights when replaced by Alex Napier.

Sice became a very busy band in th UK and we got a recording deal with United Artistes where we recorded the stuff you asked me about. My father was managing the band at the time and he eventually got us a deal with Gerry Bron and we started recording an album with him. As we were using a session keyboard player on a lot of tracks we decided to add one permanently for the live work. I had kept in touch with Ken who was by then working with Lee in a band called Toe Fat with Cliff Bennet (of Rebel Rousers fame) and after talking to him he played with us at rehearshal and joined the band. By this time we were looking for a change of name, as Gerry was getting work for us in the USA and we ended up with 'Uriah Heep' a Charles Dickens character (it was Dicken's centenary year in 1970 so Gerry thought it was a good marketing idea........

the rest is history!

Regards - Paul

Inspirational Uriah Heep cover art

Many of Heep's album covers are an inspiration to artists. The Sonic Origami cover inspired a dutch artist for this monument. It was build for a controversial Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh, whose films are critical of the Islamic faith . Theo was killed brutally in Amsterdam in 2004.

On the lighter side Abominog , the succesfull 1982 comeback album also inspired many creators of monsters for movies or Lp covers. This airbrushed version is for sale on marktplaats.nl
